4th of July (& etc) at Granny Dani's

Our 4th of July vacation started on Sunday, July 2nd with our annual family reunion. This year it was hosted by Uncle Don's family and the theme was a Fiesta. It was fun. Bob and I rocked into the finals of the bocce ball tournament...and then...it happened...Tate was playing with a 3-ish foot beach ball. He rolled over the ball onto his shoulder and broke his collar bone. We brought him into the emergency room on Sunday night. He slept through the whole exam, x-ray, etc. What a little toughy! Since there really isn't anything they can do for a broken collar bone, they gave us a sling and told us to NOT let him fall and injure the area further. OK...you put a sling on a fairly non-coordinated kid who needs 2 arms for balance and tell him that he can't fall down?? Yeah right! It was crazy though...we would be all paranoid & careful about him going up and down the stairs and then BOOM he'd trip over his own feet when he was walking in the living room. All in all he did excellent with the sling. We drugged him up with Morin and Tylenol until Wednesday and then he really didn't need the drugs. Again, he is much tougher than I. This past Monday he went to see Dr. Ed who told us that he was healing great and he should be good as new in 4-6 weeks. He can continue with his normal activities, using pain as his guide. Obviously he won't be swinging from monkey bars any time soon. He's definitely back to his old self with personality!

Another HUGE thing that happened pretty much concurrently with the broken collar bone is Tatey being potty trained. PRAISE THE LORD! He's only had 1 minor accident in about 2 weeks. I guess what they say is true, when they're ready, they're ready. AND we got to have an underwear conversation with Dr. Ed where Tatey told the doc that he wears Cars and Bob the Builder underwear. Dr. Ed told Tate that he wears plain white. WOW! That was worth the $10 co-pay! Now, the question is...boxers or briefs? (Hee, hee!)
